The golden light of morning filtered through the curtain, casting a soft glow in the living room. I slowly stirred awake, groggy and aching everywhere.

Mental reminder to self, I thought, don’t fall asleep on the sofa again. With a sigh, I got up and stretched my limbs.

Sleep was only possible thanks to Nate’s comforting presence beside me last night.

The sight of Nate bustling in the kitchen put a smile on my face. Max let out a purr, but he wasn’t close enough to trigger my allergy.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, along with waffles and sizzling bacon, filled the air. The wonderful scents made my stomach rumble.

Nate hummed under his breath, but I couldn’t identify the song he was singing. It didn’t matter.

A broad smile tugged at my lips as I joined Nate in the kitchen. He moved with ease, skillfully flipping the bacon in the pan.

I noted Nate had taken out my grandpa’s old waffle maker. A stack of waffles lay on a plate, along with some scrambled eggs.

Nate must’ve woken up early to prepare breakfast. Warmth filled me at that thought.

“You’re a wonderful sight to wake up to,” I told Nate.

I approached Nate from behind, wrapping my arms around his waist and resting my chin on his shoulder.

Then I nuzzled my cheek against Nate’s, savoring the moment for a few seconds.

It was strange, I thought, how comfortable we felt with each other. How we felt like two separate pieces made whole.

Was this what Owen felt whenever he was around Ian?

“Good morning, Cal,” Nate greeted. “Give me a kiss?”

I complied, leaning over and pressing my lips against his. Nate turned the stove off. He turned to face me, resting his hands on my shoulders.

Then Nate returned my kiss with equal passion. I cupped his left cheek, taking all the time in the world to enjoy him.

Hunger consumed me. All this time, I had behaved and restrained myself from doing more to him. This morning, I wanted more.

When I pulled away, Nate looked into my face, expression intense. I saw the same lust in my eyes reflected in Nate’s and knew this was the right moment for us to take the next step.

“Forget breakfast,” Nate said. “I should thank you for rescuing me again yesterday.”

I wanted to tell Nate the food would grow cold, but no words emerged from my lips. Instead, I took the lead, taking his hand, and led him to my bedroom.

Nate was wearing my apron, so that was the first item I took off him. Nate fumbled with his shirt, so I helped him.

“Hold your hands up,” I said.

Nate did exactly as I asked as I peeled off his shirt, exposing his beautiful body.

“Your turn next,” Nate said, returning the honors.

Our bottoms and boxers came off next. With that out of the way, I tugged Nate close to me.

I planted a kiss on this mouth again, then gave his chest a gentle shove.

Nate fell on the bed. He lay on his back as I crawled on top of him.
